Recording of a door being opened and closed, and then opened and closed again. Very slight footsteps (on carpet) can be heard. The microphone (sennheiser mkh-50) was intentionally placed about 5 feet away from the door so as to capture some of the natural room sound/reverb (which is very subtle). I have another recording available of the exact same door and mic setup, but aimed slightly off-axis to capture just a bit more room sound. Recorded into a tascam 208i audio interface and into adobe audition. Very minor processing (low-cut at 80hz to remove low-freq rumble).

Non-functional tube radio warming up, making a loud 60hz hum with lots of harmonics. As a bonus it clicks off at the end. Zenith consoltone. Only because the faq says so: electro voice n/d 257a through impedance transformer into crappy gigabyte motherboard realtek high definition audio. 16bits, processed at 32bits. Audacity sound editor and/or driver wouldn't record mic level so it was very noisy after amplification. Filtered with a (mathematically equivalent) fft constructed whopping 64k length zero phase filter (blackman window) with 5 wavelength width bandpass at each harmonic from 60hz to 5,520hz. For some reason a fraction of some of the harmonics didn't get through so did another pass on the residual noise and mixed that in. Near the beginning there was a sort of brief duplicate signal that descended in pitch so it didn't make it through the filter. I added that bit in. Attenuated frequencies above 3. 6khz because they are pretty much noise, but removing them didn't sound right. Cleaned up the beginning a bit in various ways, cut it down to 15 sec and carefully appended the unfiltered "click" onto the end, which i denoised 12db with audacity's noise reduction.

Trying to start a 1983 volvo 245 after a stop at a gas station. First we hear the seatbelt warning signal after the driver turns the ignition on. The first start attempt fails. The two following attempts fail because the starter fails to engage with the flywheel, creating a very loud and unpleasant sound. There is some reverberation from the metal roof of the gas station. At 00:24, the driver remarks "he's doing it again!". The fourth attempt succeeds in starting the engine after a rather long cranking. We then drive off and we also hear some squeaking from the steering wheel. Throughout the recording we hear breathing noises from the driver (80 year old man, smoker). The recording was made in the front passanger seat with the window open, that's why there a very noticable difference between the left and right channel. Recorder: edirol r-09, 48khz wave/24-bit, cropped with cool edit pro, re-saved as 48khz wave/24-bit and compressed with flac. No other pp. Edirol r-09 settings: low cut: off, mic gain: low, agc: off. This was created with paul's extreme sound stretch program, my voice, and audacity. I whispered a couple of times into the microphone and slowed it down a good bit in paul's stretch program. I was just messing around with audacity again, this time slowing down my recording like a tape record, which not only stretched the time, but also turned down the frequency range which resulted in pitch shift. I stumbled around a sound that sounded like a huge horn exhaust - like those war pipes from celtics. So i experimented a little bit and made this one. Original recording was mono (but recorded to stereo track), however i added a reverb effect which created a nice stereo reverb effect. Feel free to use in games :).

Line samples from a casio ap-45 on the default grand piano patch. Samples every c and g from c2 through to g8 with the sustain pedal down. Velocity is pretty aggressive and it doesn't sound quite in tune to my ear. Feels like it's a little bit out. You may want to tune these yourself, if you plan to use them for anything significant. No post processing done, so it might be worthwhile to normalize the samples out, if you're planning on putting them into a sampler for playback.

A sample that was made completely by accident. I was recording outside my local park and trying to capture the bird calls (with a semi-successful effort - too much motorway noise is a bit of a bummer) one morning and aimed my uchó pro at the ground as i stood on a sludgey leaves and wet sticks with the input too high - overdriving it but also somehow making a gore sound effect. When i imported it to reaper, time-shifting it - i spotted the unique flavor of crunchiness and wetness it gave.

I wanted to record the sound of a keyring - or rather the keys strapped to it - make while in mid-air. There are the keys audible, recorded hitting the stack of hay (soft landing) and air blowign into the mics while the recordied has high velocity. I was throwing my recorer with my left hand, while simultaneously throwing my keyring with my right hand. The throw was vertical and the landing zone was a pile of hay. I thing there are some interesting sound here, i'm uploading it unedited to make it possible to cut out whatever you like. Recorded with a flying zoom h2 at 48khz/24-bit, edited, nomalized and converted to flac using audacity.

I really enjoyed exetone studio's recording of a bell found here - https://freesound. Org/people/exotonestudio/sounds/416992/. I took this sample into melodyne and moved all of its frequencies into "c" range. This gets rid of harmonics and makes the sample well-suited to use as a musical instrument. I prefer the original sample for some purposes. Unprocessed, it has a richer sound. And i also truncated to get rid of a tricky bit i couldn't fix. And i combined stereo tracks into mono, since that works better for an instrument where one wants to control panning inside of a composition. So as a pure sound effect, i recommend the original. This version is just useful as an instrument.

This sound field recording was made back in 2000 on a very late/early morning. I placed the sony microphone ontop of the car outside to record the crickets and cicadas. There were a lot of mosquitos out that hot night. One of them landed on the mic and actually bit the microphone. You have to listen close but the bug bites at about 14:28 and removes the mosquito blood sucker at about 34:28. I only added a bit of mild reverb one sound in one section of the piece. I didn't set out to do something like this - it was only to check some sounds and get familiar with the software. Inspired from the sniper scene in "saving private ryan,". These are sound recordings of a heavy storm that entered los angeles. A compressor and equalizer was added to emphasize the rain in the gutter. Used to your preference, add rocks, gun loading, battle etc and you'll have an award winning film. Recorded using a tascam dr07 mk2 x/y stereo config. 24bit 96khz, down-sampled to 16 bit wav. Feel free to credit,comment and suggest further recordings for your need. Interesting (but painful) sounds made with a zoom h2 (front mics, low gain) connected to a laptop via usb. The signal was piped to old creative sbs250 spekers with 16ms of latency (i'm using jack audio connection kit and linux). That's how my feedback loop came into existance. I turned up the volume and started to move the mics around, geting a lot of different sounds ranginf from simple tones to strange lfoish sounds. The sound touches 0db one times, but is rather undistorted (at least digitally). Recorded with audacity @ 48khz/16-bit and saved as flac.

Computer at work, analyzing robot's violation of the first law. Not getting satisfactory answers, computer decides to release robot into the wild with its a. I. Disabled. Robot becomes homeless and is reduced to begging on street corners for new diodes and capacitors. Robot has minimal processing power left and votes for trump in 2028. Robot is not registered to vote in texas and is arrested, charged, convicted and sent to prison for voter fraud. Anti-robot prisoners beat robot to death in the exercise yard. No one is held accountable.

Clean recording of water being poured into a metal pot, meant to emulate the sound of water being poured into a kettle/teapot. Would work for pouring any liquid into almost any metal container (metal containers give off a subtle "twang" that isn't generally produced when pouring into other material containers such as glass, ceramic, plastic, wood, etc). I recorded my small house dog being scared. She's always scared for whatever reason and decides to whine. It is a very interesting sound because it almost like she's growling. A recording of a manual typewriter. The author is inserting paper, typing a paragraph, and then removing the paper. Sound of paper being inserted into the typewriter using the paper platen winder. Then the sound of typing of about 50 words. A small bell sound is heard at the end of each line, then the sound of the platen being pushed back to start the next line, and the platen moving the paper up one line. The sample ends with the sound of the paper being wound through the typewriter and removed. I have tried to avoid clipping of each typed letter. There is a lot of percussive multi pitch sound in each typed letter. There is a mechanical escapement that provides a clicking sound as the platen is moved back for the next line. This sample was recorded direct to the hard drive of this samsung nc10 netbook using audacity set to 44. 1khz and 16 bit in mono. A dynamic microphone was used on a small desk stand about 1 foot (30cm) from the typewriter, the stand being on a different table to the one on which the typewriter was used. The microphone was a fairly cheap make (hitachi hmp606) and was pre-amplified using a maycom mictube preamplifier built into the xlr connector, connected to the mic in port of the samsung nc10 netbook. The mic boost was reduced to zero, and the gain of the maycom preamp was at its lowest setting.

Recorded into a tascam 208i audio interface and into adobe audition. Very minor processing (low-cut at 80hz to remove low-freq rumble).

This is a single guitar string plucked with a pick directly at the headstock, that means between the tuners and the nut. There the string is very short and tight, resulting in a high, almost piano-like tone. Also, since there is no sound box, the tone is rather quiet. I used this for a sampler and i liked the sound of it. This is the raw recording. If you want to use it in a sampler too, i recommend adding some eq, reverb and maybe some delay. It is not perfectly in tune though, the closest note is a#. You might tweak the tuning a little bit when using it in combination with other tuned instruments. Argentina, tierra del fuego - in a farm close to ushuaia, during the "patagonian rodeo". Once a year, the farmers go in line through the fields and the forest, screaming and whistling, in order to send the sheep to the corner of the field, and take them to the farm for the sheep's shave. They can't see each other but can recognize themselves with their specific screams and keep in line. I'm attempting to create a controllable thunderstorm for a film, and this is my first legitimate attempt. This recording consists of 4 samples of rain, and another 3 samples of rain+thunder that i recorded one afternoon. Equipment used was the inbuilt mics on a roland r-26, and a sennheiser me66 into a sound devices 702. The clips were recorded at 96khz/24-bit, and they were processed at 48khz/24-bit. For processing, i put the samples into kyma, and crossfaded for texture. The howling wind sound is an analog-style low pass filter's frequency, level, and resonance being controlled by a wacom intuos4 pen/tablet. The rain slowly swells, which was done by changing parameters of a granular reverb. The thunder was also controlled by the wacom tablet, with x, y, and z (pressure) dimensions mapped to making the thunder swell in level, density, and texture. This could have been output in surround, but i don't have that many monitors ;). This style of "rain-synthesis" can also go on indefinitely. Please let me know what you think of the quality of this track; eg, if it sounds real, if the wind sounds ridiculous, too much thunder, etc. Use this sound (wherever) if you want to, or let me know if you'd like an mp3 of this, or for it to last longer. I drove my car into a wall; and recorded the proximity alert from it. I then washed it through audacity; slowed it 23%; and trimmed the edges. The result? -chilling. A few indistinct gulps cool the atmosphere a little more. It's not the making of a corpse - but it sounds a bit like it?. Recorded late at night in my car by my home with the engine off in fog - so the sound is 'hollowed' by the atmosphere. Recorded using a sennheiser mke300 'shotgun' mic. Cropped in audacity; and saved as aif file. What a chilling way to go. . . ?.
